Delhi, June 02, 2015:  Nissan today announced the opening of registrations for the seventh season of the Nissan PlayStation® GT Academy competition in India.

Gamers with access to a Sony Entertainment Network account, a PlayStation®3 and the Gran Turismo®6 game can play online to qualify for  the national finals.

Participants who wish to compete in the Live Events can log on to www.nissan.in/innovation/gt-academy to pre-register, starting today at 1900hrs IST. The live events will commence from June 5th in Delhi followed by Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai over the subsequent weeks.

Online participants will get a unique and exciting opportunity to put the innovative new Nissan GT-R LM NISMO car through its paces at the historic Circuit de la Sarthe, home of the Le Mans 24 Hours, before the car makes its real-life debut in the world-famous race. An in-game time trial, featuring perfect recreations of car and track, will constitute the final Gran Turismo®6 time trial for the 2015 Nissan PlayStation® GT Academy competition.

Only two weeks remain to enter the GT Academy 2015 competition via GT6 and chase the dream of racing for real. The final round of the online qualifying competition goes live on Tuesday, 2 June and runs until 16 June, just after the actual Le Mans race.

10 fastest contestants each from live and online events will go head to head at the National Finals in June. Six finalists will then move to the famed Silverstone Race Camp to compete in the GT Academy Asia, which also includes winners from Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Japan. The winner of the GT Academy Asia will bag an opportunity to race at the Dubai 24hrs in January 2016.

About Nissan PlayStation®3 GT Academy

GT Academy is an innovative platform that offers aspiring racers and gaming enthusiasts to register, compete and potentially win a place in the coveted driver discovery and development programme.

Entered by racing on the Gran Turismo®6 video game, exclusive to PlayStation®3, GT Academy is a ‘virtual to reality’ programme that will test the racing acumen of enthusiasts through a time-trial competition on PlayStation GT6 racing simulators.

The time-trials should be considered as qualifying rounds and will be hosted as ‘Live Events’ at shopping malls in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Already popular in other countries as the gateway to motorsports, Nissan PlayStation GT Academy extends exactly the same platform to motor racing aspirants in India. Entrants will have to first race on simulators and if they prove to be quick enough, can go through to the National Final.

An online qualifying round will be hosted on the Sony Entertainment Network Account (SEN) earlier popular as PlayStation Network (PSN).

Ten (10) quickest lap times from Live Events and another ten (10) from Online Qualification rounds – 20 in total - will be eligible to enter the National Final. Six winners from this will be eligible for the International Race camp at Silverstone.

The 20 contestants who enter the National Final will need to go through a two-day intensive physical and mental training examination programme which will filter out only six contestants who will be eligible for the International Race Camp at Silverstone.
