Airtel launches packs to offer more data benefits and give customers some reasons not to move over to Reliance Jio

India's leading telecom provider Airtel has today announced the launch of a new Mega Saver Pack for prepaid customers across the country. The two separate packs would help customers save money on data recharges of 1 GB by paying an upfront amount. This would mean a saving on the total amount that the users would have to pay otherwise. The packs are already up and running in the Delhi circle and would be available in other circles starting August 31st, 2016.

The first choice is a pack of Rs. 1498 where the customers would get 1 GB 4G/3G data upfront with a validity of 28 days. Once this limit is exhausted, the customers can get 1 GB 4G/3G recharges for only Rs. 51 subsequently for a total of 12 months. There is no upper limit on the number of times a customer can recharge his prepaid card during this period of 12 months. In retrospect, the customer would end up getting a higher benefit the higher the number of recharges he/she does.

The other pack available is for Rs. 748 where the customers would get 1 GB 4G/3G data upfront again with a validity of 28 days. And once the limit is exhausted, 1 GB 4G/3G recharges would cost Rs. 99 for a total of 6 months. Just like the other pack, there is no limit to the number of recharges a customer can do during the offer period.

The following table would make it clearer:

Post 1GB benefit
Pack MRP
Upfront Free benefit (Valid for 28 days)
MRP of 1GB (Valid for 28 days)
Pack Validity
1GB 4G/3G
6 months
1GB 4G/3G
12 months

Telecom companies across the country have been in a continual amendment mode since Reliance Jio started rolling out its 90 days Preview Offer to various smartphone vendors. With Jio offering mouthwatering speeds and pure unlimited data connections completely free for 3 months, other telcos are understandably feeling the pressure to pass on more data benefits to the end consumer and stay afloat in the market. With Reliance Jio seemingly set for a commercial launch in the very near future, data services are undeniably going to see a remarkable revolution in India, which till now were lingering at a very slow and sheepish pace.
