New specifications for Motorola's Moto Z Play smartphone have been leaked online by GFXBench. It is basically a vanilla mid-ranger phone with an added capability of harnessing the power of Moto Mods the way Moto Z does. GFXBench reports that Moto Z Play would be featuring a 5.5 inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The single SIM device would sport a 2.0 GHz Octa core Cortex-A53 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor supported by 3 GB RAM along with 32 GB internal memory. The GPU powering the graphics on the device would be Qualcomm Adreno 605 and it would carry an NFC chip inside. On the camera front, the rear camera would have a resolution of 16 Megapixels while the front camera would have a resolution of 5 Megapixels. The smartphone will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.

Moto Z Play is expected to house a 3.5 mm audio jack which would make it slightly thicker than its older sibling, the Moto Z. Otherwise the design would remain similar to the Moto Z. The USP of Moto Z Play would be the modules that can be added for more functionality called Moto Mods. These mods can juice up the battery capacity or carry a DAC inside just for example.

Though modular smartphones have not become mainstream as yet and Motorola's Z series is still not available globally, we do feel that Motorola can give the new technology a dramatic push provided they can price the Moto Z Play correctly. The other smartphone catering to modular technology, the LG G5 still hasn't taken the market by storm leaving the window wide open for Motorola to jump right into. Moto Z phones are also expected to hit Indian shores in October this year.
