Samsung expected to launch Gear S3 smartwatch at IFA 2016
Samsung is gearing up for IFA 2016 and has started sending out media invites globally. The invite hints at a possible launch of Samsung Gear S3. IFA 2016 is scheduled to take place from September 2nd to September 7th while the Samsung press conference is on September 1st.
SamMobile reports that Gear S3 will carry a rotary bezel like its elder siblings. This remains in stark contrast with Apple Watch which supposedly would keep with the rectangular design for the next revision as well. Apple Watch 2 is expected to launch in second half of this year, with most rumors pointing towards an October release date.
In the past years, Samsung used the IFA platform to launch the coveted Note series smartphones but since this year, the Note 7 launch is already a part of history, it seems to make way for Samsung to showcase the new watch. Other than the Gear S3, Samsung will reportedly take the covers off Galaxy Tab 3.
Gear S3, which is speculated to release in a number of variants should lead the way forward for Samsung in the wearable category. The Korean tech giant already has a good market share and the new smartwatch should be able to cement the brand's position as a leading player in this category too.
