Samsung expected to launch Tizen based Z2 smartphone on 23rd August

Samsung skipped the Z2 launch as it moved straight on to Z3 after Z1. But now the Korean tech giant is expected to unveil Tizen based Z2 smartphone in India at an event on Tuesday, 23rd August for which the company has shared invites with the media. A few features and specifications of the new device were covered in a video last week which we posted as well.

Samsung Z2 is the first Tizen smartphone from the brand speculated to sport 4G LTE. The phone would have India specific functions like Ultra Data Saving Mode and a few apps tailored for Indian customers like My Money Transfer. This app would allow users to do money transactions. The phone is also expected to carry a feature whereby the brightness of the flashlight/torch can be set to any level the way we set display brightness levels.

The smartphone further is expected to be using a 1.5 GHz Quad core CPU, have a 3.97 inch WVGA display, 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. The cameras on Z2 would include a 5 Megapixels rear snapper and a VGA lens on the front. The battery is speculated to be 1500 mAh and the operating system powering the device would be Tizen 2.4.

Tizen based phones still cater only to a niche audience and this would be Samsung's attempt to gain further foothold in the market. It would be interesting to know how much meaningful innovation can Samsung do with this new smartphone as the invite mentions. But we hope Samsung sticks to a straightforward numbering in the future as it has become quite confusing to note that Z2 is launching after Z1 and Z3.
