Xiaomi has reduced the price of its costliest smartphone in India, the Mi 5 by Rs. 2000. The phone, which was available for Rs. 24999 at launch will now sell for Rs. 22999. The move was tweeted by Xiaomi country head Manu Jain. These smartphones are now available on Flipkart and Xiaomi's own online store mi.com at the slashed prices. This move to drop the prices by Xiaomi come at the heels of Samsung slashing the prices of its flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge by Rs. 5000 each.
Mi 5 is a premium smartphone which sports a 5.15 inch Full HD display with a pixel resolution of 1080 x 1920. The processor powering the smartphone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and it carries 3 GB RAM. The phone has 32 GB internal memory. The dual SIM phone features a 16 Megapixels rear camera with PDAF, LED flash and 4-axis Optical Image Stabilisation. The front snapper has a resolution of 4 Megapixels.
The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has a battery capacity of 3000 mAh. It also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The connectivity options available on the device include 4G, LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C connector port.
The price reduction by Xiaomi and Samsung would see more customers lining up to buy their flagship smartphones ahead of the festive season. The new prices would entice a few more people who earlier might have been bound by watertight budgets but would now be able to afford these premium devices.
