TomTom launches three new activity trackers in India, Touch, Adventurer and Spark 3
TomTom India has today launched three fitness trackers in the country which go by the names of TomTom Touch, TomTom Spark 3 and TomTom Adventurer. The primary product, TomTom Touch comprises body composition analysis (BCA) along with steps, sleep and all day heart-tracking from the comfort of your wrist which would definitely please fitness freaks. In basic terms, body composition analysis (BCA) tells the user a ratio between the amount of fat and muscle present in the body through which they can analyse the amount of workout they need to do to make the ratio more in favor of muscle. However, the company did not specify if there is any such golden percentage that a user should try and achieve. The watches have been launched under the umbrella brand TomTom Sports which would group and project TomTom's fitness products moving forward.
TomTom Touch can be worn 24 * 7 and it comes with the major features of body composition analysis, tracking steps, sleep, all day heart rate, calories burned along with provisions for receiving smartphone notifications as well as a sports mode for running, cycling and gymming. Statistics can be analysed easily through the companion app running on the smartphone, available both for iOS devices as well as Android. TomTom Touch has up to 5 day battery life and is available for Rs. 13999 exclusively at Amazon.in.
TomTom Adventurer is the second offering from the brand which is a high end GPS Outdoor Watch. It is designed basically for outdoor activity enthusiasts spending most of their time in hiking, trail running, skiing and snowboarding. As per TomTom officials, this watch is meant for a niche audience and does not cater to a mass market like the TomTom Touch mentioned above. TomTom Adventurer features a 24 * 7 activity tracker, multi sport mode, built in heart rate monitor, music player, barometer, compass and automatic lift detection for snow based sports. The additional functions of this watch include GPS tracking and Route Exploration. This comes in light of TomTom's inherited skill set in navigation and mapping based on its GPS based devices. This tracker would be available at all leading e-tailers by mid-December 2016 for a price of Rs. 25999.
TomTom Spark 3 GPS Multisport Fitness Watch also sports Route Exploration which can even help a lost soul be pointed back towards the starting point in a reverse direction as a GPS trace is displayed on the screen each time a user starts a trail. The watch adds a social component to the whole scenario as users can share routes with friends thereby challenging them further to explore separate routes. TomTom Spark 3 will be available at all leading e-tailers starting at a price of Rs. 13999. Spark 3 comes in 3 further variants, a Cardio version for cardio exercises and a Music version which can store up to 500 songs along with a 3rd variant which can handle both cardio and music.
Though the new fitness trackers by TomTom are slightly overpriced, they should be able to target the niche market they are trying to look into. One of the other issues that was pointed out is that these trackers come with a proprietary charger and a special USB cable and you won't be able to use other standard chargers or cables to charge or connect to your PC's. However, TomTom officials reiterated that the chargers and cables would be available separately as well in case you happen to damage or lose them. But for all good, we still feel that these trackers should have been more competitively priced considering the budget conscious Indian buyers and specially in the wake of recent curb on black money in the country.
